What Attracts Insects
Materials Required:
- Porch with light
- Four cereal bowls
- Pancake syrup
- Soda
- Milk
- Table
Many insects are attracted to lights, when weather is warm. There will be many flying insects gathered around lights on warm nights. Assume that they are attracted to many other things as well.
Collect four cereal bowls and fill them with soda, milk, water and pancake syrup respectively. Place them under the porch light, when it is dark. Check back after an hour and count the number of insects, on the mouth of each bowl.
Are the numbers more around the soda and syrup bowls than those on the other two? With the help of an insect book, can you identify those at the bowls on the porch?
