Degree of Comfort
Materials Required:
- A thermometer
- Paper and pencil
- An adult, for safety around
There are hot and cold areas in your home because of temperature difference. Even with air conditioning in the summer and heat during winters, the range differs. That spot will not be as comfortable, as the rest of the house. Some section may be agreeable at a particular time of the day, while others prove to be pleasant, at different intervals.
In this activity, we will measure the temperature of different areas in the house in morning, noon and evening respectively. Make a note of the location, the temperature, time and whether it is comfortable or uncomfortable there.
It may be pleasant sitting by the window, when the sun is shining heat sources during the day, but cold and drafty in the evening. What is the temperature of the area near the heat source in the house, for example the fireplace, radiator, air ducts etc?
Does the spot near the window need any other heat when the sun is shining in?
If your skin feels dry in a heated room, it is probably due to lack of moisture in the air.
Do you feel a sense of discomfort even though the temperature is just right?
