Science Project “Escaping Gases” Complete School Projects on Air, Water, Weather and Temperature for Class 8, 9, 10 and 12 Students.
Escaping Gases
Materials Required:
- A balloon
- A bottle of carbonated soda
Soda contains Carbon Dioxide, a colorless gas that is exhaled by human beings and animals. This gas is also created, when things containing a high carbon content are burnt, like charcoal, wood and coal.
This carbon dioxide is contained in carbonated soft drinks, which adds the fizz to these drinks. With the cap placed on the soda bottles, the carbon dioxide remains dissolved. When the cap is removed, carbon dioxide starts to leave the bottle and this escape is termed as Chemical Energy.
It is this carbon dioxide which produces bubbles in soda and gives it the foamy head. This experiment will prove that there is energy being created by the expanding carbon dioxide.
Before beginning, stretch a balloon in all directions. Then blow the balloon in all directions, so that it becomes easier to inflate during the experiment.
Now open a bottle of carbonated soda. After removing the cap, place the mouth of the balloon on the mouth of the bottle.
Now carefully shake the bottle, so as to let the carbon dioxide escape from the bottle. The balloon will blow up.
If this experiment is carried out on a bottle of carbonated soda, which has been kept for a long time, then the same results will not be obtained.
