Nowadays children as young as ten are committing terrible crimes such as murder and rape. If children commit such crimes age is no excuse and they should be sent to prison for the rest of their lives. Do you agree?

Recent days are witnessing an alarming rise in crime among children. However, governments are lenient in punishing those young delinquents as some people believe that the punishment should be lighter for children. I do not agree to the idea that such young criminals should be given stringent punishments like life imprisonment.

Firstly, at the age of ten, a child is not mature enough to think about the pros and cons of any activity and is unable to calculate the implications of any deeds. Hence, whatever children do at this age is simply an imitation of what. they see in society. For instance, in many cases committed by children, it was found that they were motivated by some programs they watched on television of internet. So, if any heinous crime is committed by a child, it is not the child but it is the society to blame.

Moreover, there are better ways to adopt. The budding criminals could be sent to juvenile homes because at that age, through proper training and education, their attitude can be changed. Wasting their precious lives in the four walls of jails is a loss for the country as these people can contribute a lot for the development of society. Furthermore, as old ones say, ‘like father, like son’. If parents do not believe in morality, they cannot expect their children to lead an auspicious life. It is rightly said that ‘an apple never falls far from the tree’.

As a whole, it can be said that it is the responsibility of parents and society to see that the young ones are provided moral education along with bookish knowledge. If children engage in crime, it is the society to be punished, not children.
