Nowadays people do not have the same respect for their elders as they once had. Do you agree or disagree?

Media and the aged generation often allege that the young ones today have no respect towards their elders. In my opinion, the modern youngsters are being unnecessarily criticized by the society.

One has to accept the fact that lifestyles and customs are vulnerable to changes and that the last four decades have witnessed a dramatic change in the lifestyle of people. These days, the young ones get employment at a very early age which makes them independent and confident to take any decision on their own. There was a time when the young ones totally depended on their elders for everything. The sudden changes seem irrational to the old people and they find it difficult to get used to it. Hence, they blame the new ones for their disrespect and negligence

However, the modern generation should keep one thing in mind that everything they enjoy today is the result of hard work done by their predecessors. So, forgetting or neglecting them is an act of injustice. They should be given the respect and care they deserve. There are a lot of things one can learn from their vast source of experience. In addition, one has the moral obligation to follow the culture and way of life which their elders find very necessary. For elders, forgetting culture and customs is like disrespecting the past and past people.

To sum up, it seems that the howl that youngsters are leading a wayward life forgetting their elders is not exactly correct. To remove the gap between generations, both the young and old should be ready to listen to, and to cooperate with each other.
