Wind Energy

Materials Required:

  1. Pencil
  2. Thumbtacks
  3. Thread

Solar cells and windmills may soon be the primary source of transmitting electricity into our houses.

To find out, how a windmill can produce energy, you could construct one of your own and see the results for yourself. However, you need to know where to place your windmill first. You need to find the place, where the wind is the strongest, for the windmill to work effectively.

Make a device, which can ascertain the wind strength of a place. Jab a thumbtack into the eraser end of a pencil and tie a piece of thread of approximately 10 inches onto the tack.

Design a sketch of your house and label the sides as A, B, C and so on and label the corners in numbers.

Now go out and stand at every side and corner of the walls of the house. At each point, hold the pencil at arm’s length to measure the wind strength.

The greater the angle at which the string bends away from the pencil, the greater will be the wind strength.

Compare which portion of your house is thereby more windy-the middle or the corners?
