Alpine Plants
Plants of this type arc found in the high mountains where they have to survive in extremely cold temperatures, freezing winds and soils which are largely rocky and devoid of water. The survival instincts in plants help them through this situation by giving them different shapes and sizes which help them in thriving. The ability to generate their own warmth is most important for plants at these altitudes. As a result of this alpine plants are generally small in size and have leaves hugging the ground so that they can generate warmth. An alpine plant called Edelweiss is covered in hair, which serves a dual purpose, it prevents loss of water or heat and protects the plant from the strong sunlight. There is another variety of an alpine plant called the Gentian which generates its own heat and they are able to grow beneath the snow.
