Napoleon and The English Sailor
Once Napoleon, the famous Emperor of France, was waiting to take his army to England. His fleet was ready to sail. A French ship took a young British seaman as a prisoner. He was a poor sailor, a man of no importance. So he was allowed to wander about on the sea-shore.
He felt homesick in a foreign land. He missed his motherland. He wished to go back to his country. He knew that no French ship would carry him ashore.
He started making a small boat out of a log of wood. At last, the boat was ready. As soon as he floated it into the water, a French sergeant came and arrested him. The young man was produced before Napoleon along with the boat that he had made.
Napoleon was amused to look at the tiny boat. He asked the Youngman why he wanted to go home. The young man replied that he wanted to be in his motherland. The French Emperor gave him a pleasant surprise. He gave him some gold coins and set him free. Obviously, Napoleon thought high of the English sailor’s love for his motherland.
Moral: Love for one’s motherland is ever-rewarding.
