10 Lines – The Snake Charmer

1. A snake charmer earns his living by snake shows in streets, bazaars, and other crowded public places.
2. He catches snaked from jungles. He takes out their poisonous teeth. He carries them in baskets.
3. At a crowded place he pouts down the baskets, opens the lid/cover, and starts playing on his musical instrument called ‘Been’.
4. The snake raises its hood and starts swaying its outspread hood this way and that way with the movement of the charmer ‘been’.
5. Soon there gather a crowd of people in a circle to watch the show.
6. Then the snake-charmer closes it and opens a few other baskets one by one.
7. He also shows a snake with two heads, which can move both ways. There is another head and a part of eyes on its tail.
8. Some shows a fierce fight between a snake and the mongoose. This show is very dangerous.
9. After the show the snake charmer goes round with a bowl in his hand.
10. People put coins in it. He packs his baskets and puts them in a sling and moves on to some other place to do the same show for money. His life is hard but he enjoys it.
