The Republic Day

1. On 26th January, 1950 India became a Republic. It adopted the constitution on this day.
2. It is considered the red-letter day. Since then, it is celebrated with great pomp and show.
3. On this day the President takes salutes of our armed forces at Rajpath, in New Delhi.
4. The programme starts from Vijay Chowk in the morning. People occupy seats on either side of the road.
5. The President unfurls the National Flag. He is given a salute of 21 guns. Jhankies of different states are taken out which present a wonderful sight each.
6. School children play dance or bhangra. A colourful march past of our forces, police and NCC is displayed. Brave children and army officers are given prizes for their bravery and remarkable services. Brave children are seated on the elephants.
7. Tanks, aeroplanes, jeeps and military trucks are also displayed. In all, it is a day of great pride for every citizen.
8. Aeroplanes in the sky whiz the place making a colourful row of our National Flag. The whole show is telecast live on all the channels.
9. Those who can’t come to witness the show watch it on T.V. screens sitting in their homes.
10. Millions of people witness the march past and other displays from Vijay Chowk to the Red Fort.
