As technological innovation brings about rapid changes and retraining becomes a lifelong necessity, industry should take over more and more of the responsibility for education.
The pace at which technology changes the face of workplace has taken many people by surprise. As a result of this change, employees have to update their work-related knowledge throughout their working life. Hence, it seems the responsibility of industry to provide further education to employees.
Firstly, it is difficult for employees to upgrade themselves according to the changes as the training for the same may not be available easily. Yet another problem is the expenditure it incurs. It is a burden for people to spend on further education indefinitely. Furthermore, unlike the young ones, old and middle-aged employees may feel it a burden to pursue studies at that later age, especially if they have to go outside.
However, to provide training to its employees is not a major task for companies as the companies are already equipped with the required technology. Getting further training while on job will give the feeling of job security and it helps save a lot of time and money. Also, learning from a familiar situation seems easier and more effective. Moreover, on- work experience will be more useful for both the employer and the employee.
In total, it seems that companies providing required training to its employees will be the best solution as employees are freed from the burden of going to other training centers. Also, companies can make sure that the employees are getting all the relevant knowledge so that they can be absorbed into productive work easily.
