Petroleum
Oil is pumped out of holes drilled in the ground, both on land and in the seas, and the unpurified oil is called Petroleum. With the advent of the industrial revolution in Europe, there arose a need for a better fuel to run engines and light the lamps. In America a man called George Bissell first thought of drilling oil from the ground. He extracted and sent a sample to the Yale university. The report he received hack confirmed that petroleum was capable of yielding paraffin, gas for illumination and oils for lamps and lubrication. Bissell hired a crew of men and started drilling for oil in Pennsylvania and on 27th August 1859 they struck oil. The first barrels of oil were pumped out, refined and made available in various forms. With this a new era had begun and the news spread all over the world. As an aftermath oil exploration was started all over the world and it has not ended even today, neither has the utility of petroleum.
