Paragraph on “Must man grow wings in order to fly?” complete paragraph for Class 9, Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12

Must man grow wings in order to fly?

There were two ways man might be able to fly. One was to copy the way birds fly. That is he could use a machine which was heavier than air with some kind of wings. However, the heaviest bird is only about 16 kg (35 lb and we weigh much more. The other way was to make a machine lighter than air so that it would float on the air as wood floats on water. What, though, is lighter than air?

Joseph and Jacques Montgolfier of France realised that hot air and smoke go up the chimney because they are lighter than cold air ! They built a balloon which was filled with hot air from a fire underneath. In 1783 a man flew in their balloon ! Later balloons used hydrogen or helium gases, both of which are lighter than air. In this century airships have carried passengers all over the world. They are long rigid balloons with motors.
