Gymnastics

Gymnastics originated in ancient Greece and were very popular at that time. It was in 1896 that interest in this form of sport was revived and it was included in the Olympics. Gymnastics is a combination of different types of exercises which are performed on the floor or Parallel bars, Balance beam, Horizontal bars, Pommel horse, Rings etc. The floor exercises are performed to the accompaniment of music. For many years the former Soviet Union produced some of the best gymnasts but in recent years Japan too has become a leader in this field.
