Games

Games don’t generally require too much of physical activity. Their main objective is to provide a challenge and excitement. Some of the games like chess even test human I.Q. and mental power. Some of the earlier forms of games, dating back more than 3500 years, included board games like Chess, Blackgammon, Draughts and the Indian game called Chauser. These were more common with the royalty in those days. Chauser was played with small sea shells and dice. As the players threw the dice they moved their shells on a marked board or cloth in the shape of a cross. The first player to get all his counters into the centre of the board won the game. Chess was more common in the west in those days but evidence is also found that this game was played in the east. These games were succeeded by games which were played with a pack of 52 cards. These cards were divided into four sets bearing different designs called Clubs, Spades, Diamonds and Hearts. Each of these sets had 13 cards which made up the entire pack. Some of the popular card games included Rummy, Poker, Bridge etc. Most card games are played today with bets. The same stands good for most Dice games as well.

Besides these indoor games, there are a lot of outdoor games which are more physical in nature and are played by children in playgrounds. These include games like Tag, Skipping on a rope. Hide and Seek, Hopscotch etc. The latest addition to games arc the computer games. Programmers developed computer programs which allowed computer users to play games on the computer with the help of the Keyboard or a Joystick. Today these games provide entertainment and can be connected to a television and two players can play against each other. Some of the computer games arc more complex, for example today one can play chess against a computer and test one’s skill. Other types of games include those which are played in fairs and in parties at home.
