Euclid was a great Mathematician of ancient Greece. Many a scholar and philosopher from Greece used to go to Egypt during those days. Euclid too established a school in Egypt. Though having scholarly inclination towards Music, Arts and Optics, he was deeply interested in Mathematics. He gave geometry a separate identity. Euclid had to face a lot of derision because his works, innovative as they were, were frowned upon by the suspecting public. He spent his entire life in research and in inventing new methods known as “Elements”, which form the basis of geometry even to this day.
Euclid was born in Greece, of a shopkeeper father. Even in child-hood, he used to be engrossed in points and lines. He was considered to be abnormal, which remained the cause of his unhappiness throughout his life. The then society neglected Euclid’s great achievements and did not give him his due place, but time proved his findings to be true and established his authority in the field. Apart from Elements, he wrote some other works also, of which only a few are available today. Euclid enjoys pride of a place in the field of mathematics.
