Saraswati Puja
Saraswati puja falls on the fifth day of Wasant’ – spring. Therefore, it is also known as the day of Vasant Panchami. Actually, Vasant Panchami falls on the fifth day of Magh shukla.
Saraswati is the wife of Lord Brahma. She is also the Goddess of Wisdom and Knowledge as well as the Goddess of creativity and inspiration. On this day, Saraswati is worshiped with flowers. Decorations are mostly done by using `Gainda’, the yellow-coloured flower to represent the season of Vasanta. Traditionally recognised as the inventor of Sanskrit and the Devanagari script, she is also known as (Veena Vadini’. Saraswati is generally represented sitting cross-legged on a lotus or a water-lily. Her vehicle is swan in Bengal and peacock in some other parts of India.
To appease Saraswati, floral offerings are made on a large scale. Books, articles, instruments of music and arts are placed before the statue of Saraswati. The puja is done throughout the day. In the evening, the statue of Saraswati is immersed in river, sea or ocean.
