International Women’s – 8th March

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated every year on 8th March to highlight the importance and different problems of the women community in the world. Almost half of the world’s population is women. the partners of men rather than men’s competitors. The journey of a woman which starts in a society as a young girl does not end with the role of a sister, wife and mother but it continues in some other forms also. A woman is an individual having her own freedom wishes and ambitions. The woman herself will have to understand her importance and work accordingly. Hence this day is celebrated as a milestone towards equality with men.

The history of International women’s Day goes back to 8th March 1857. On this date, women garment workers in New York city marched and demanded improved working conditions, a 10-hour day duty and equal rights for women. Thereafter in 1910 at the second International Conference, a worldwide socialist party congress proposed that March 8 be proclaimed as ‘International Women’s Day.’ The dignity and security for women is a must to build a progressive society. In this direction, a woman’s own step should be the first step of progress. Every woman has to become practical in day-to-day issue to empower herself and then strengthen the society at large. To achieve this women themselves have to take steps to:

  1. Stop discrimination between male and female child,
  2. Stop female child abuse,
  3. Stop domestic violence,
  4. Stop dowry.

Hence women have to become economically strong to be empowered to take control of their own life. Our government is implementing various development schemes for economically poor women. NGO’s are also rendering helping hands to help distressed women. But International Women’s Day is an occasion for women to recognize themselves and understand their rights and duties. Women carry a great responsibility of the society. They can carry. Out this responsibility only when they themselves are healthy, educated and empowered. To achieve all these every women will have to fight their own battle.
