1. India can be proud of her rich heritage.

2. Our country has many beautiful historical buildings and monuments which take us back to the past.

3. We cannot help but marvel at the intricate structures and designs carved centuries ago, by our skilled craftsmen.

4. The Qutab Minar in Delhi is one such structure. It was begun by Qutub-ud-Din Aibak in A.D. 1200 but was completed by the kings who succeeded him.

5. It is situated in south Delhi. This pillar stands 242 feet high. Built originally with seven storeys, its height stretched to about 300 feet.

6. It is built of red sandstone and white marble. The purple-red sandstone at the base is finely coloured to match the dark orange-coloured stone used in the fifth storey.

7. The three-tower storeys have bands of Arabic writing on them. The plinth is a polygon of 20 sides.

8. A balcony, well decorated, runs around each storey. Almost seven centuries have passed since it was constructed, yet the column is as new in its appearance as it was centuries ago.

9. This pillar, which is a great tourist attraction and the pride of our country, is beautifully proportioned and structured with great care.

10. The whole of Delhi can be viewed from the top of the minar and one realises how untouched and silent the minar appears in comparison.
