Essay on – The Menace of Science

Or

The Threat/Danger of Science

There is no denying the fact that science has dramatically changed the world around us. It has brought comfort along with destruction into our lives.

Science has conquered time and distance, controlled, epidemics, improved the yield of agriculture, and provided accommodation too.

On the other hand, it has also produced very potentially destructive weapons. One such example is the atom bomb dropped over Hiroshima and another is the hydrogen bomb dropped over Nagasaki a few days later. These bombs caused untold death, destruction, and diseases in their aftermaths.

Now chemical bombs have been produced. Germs for killing innocent victims through the spread of epidemics have been developed which would cause more painful deaths. Weapons such as AK-42, AK-47, missiles-crafts laden with bombs have been produced. They have replaced spears and swords and bows and arrows.

Many of these weapons of death and destruction are being used by terrorists. Human bombs have become the ultimate weapons of the terrorists. No country in the world is without terrorists. No country in the world is without terrorists.

The tests of nuclear bombs have damaged the ecological balance, destroyed jungles, contaminated water, land and air. Man in his race for industrialization too has causes a lot of damage to the environment. The use of non-environmental technologies has caused much harm. They have increased the discharge of poisonous gases in the air and chemical wastes into the water and land.

In his search of better medicine, science has destroyed or killed innumerable (countless) animals such as rats, fishes, birds and monkeys. These creatures have been extensively experimented upon in our laboratories. All these tortures have been inflicted upon them in the name of science.

It is not entirely the science that is to be blamed but it is the hand that uses it in the name of progress and upliftment of mankind or to establish the supremacy of one’s nation. Science is a menace if it is used by the wrong hand. Therefore, we should stop the wrong hand from making it a tool of destruction.
