How to Defy the Gravity
Materials Required:
- An empty plastic bottle
- A sharp pencil
In a gravitational field, everything falls at the same speed, no matter what its weight is or what it is made of.
Gravity disappears inside a free-falling container. This is one trick that should preferably be performed outdoors.
Make two holes on opposite sides of a plastic bottle, near the bottom, with a sharp pencil. Fill the bottle with water, while putting your thumb and forefinger over the holes.
When you remove your thumb and forefinger, gravity will force the water to come out.
Interestingly, if you hold the bottle at a height and let it fall, water will remain in the bottle.
It is much like a spacecraft as it orbits Earth.
In this particular experiment, water does not come out because both the water and the plastic bottle plummet at the same speed.
In a spacecraft orbiting the Earth, what is inside, in effect, is falling towards the Earth, at the same speed. So if you happen to be in the spacecraft and drop a bottle of water, it will be suspended right where you let it go.
The water will not leak out, simply because, the bottle and the water are falling towards the Earth at the same speed.
