Why Are Stars Seen Only At Night?
The atmosphere which surrounds the earth gives us the blue sky as we see in the daytime. Stars don’t disappear during daytime, it is just that they cannot be seen because of the Earth’s blue sky and the light from the Sun. If we were to stand on the Moon we would see the stars clearly since lack of air gives the sky a black colour on the Moon. Astronomers are however able to see some of the brighter stars during daytime with the help of powerful telescopes. On occasions when the sky is completely clear, planets like Venus, Jupiter and Mars can be sent in the daytime.
Twinkling of Stars
One of the other disturbances caused in visibility of stars, by the Earth’s atmosphere, is the twinkling of stars. Star don’t twinkle in reality, it is the disturbance in visibility caused by the heat released from the Earth’s surface which produces this effect.
