Where do Marsupials live?
Marsupial mammals are not nearly as wide-spread today as the other mammals — the placental mammals. Marsupials are mostly confined to the continent of Australasia, although a few are also to be found in South America. No one really knows exactly why marsupials are only found in these places, but it seems likely that the parts of the world they are found in became isolated from the rest of the world soon after the marsupials had arrived there, and without competition from the later evolving placental mammals, the marsupials were able to develop into the types known today.
Although marsupials are free from predators such as the big cats which usually hunt smaller mammals in other parts of the world, they nevertheless live in similar ways to their placental counterparts. Thus the rare Tasmanian wolf hunts smaller creatures in a similar way to wolves, like the timber wolf. Likewise, the kangaroo is a grazing marsupial which fills a role similar to that of the deer. In fact, if we look closely, we find that there are also marsupial moles, bears, shrews and rats.
