The Size of The Universe
Considering the size of our Milky way and the number of other galaxies known to man it is impossible for the human mind to imagine what the size of the universe might be. To start with we cannot even measure distances in space in miles or kilometres, we have to use light years, i.e. the amount of distance light would travel in a year at its speed of more than 3,00,000 km per second.
Our own galaxy is about 1,00,000 light years wide and there may be millions of such galaxies, bigger and smaller than ours, in space. Attempts in measuring the universe were made by the American astronomer Edwin Hubble by using the Mount Wilson telescope, but we still do not know the exact size.
