Mathematics

It is difficult to imagine our modern way of life without mathematics, imagine what would happen if we could not measure things or calculate amounts. We would not be able to even weigh the vegetables we would like to buy or for that matter calculate the price payable for them. The need to measure how long or how much or how many is so great in our daily life that it would be absolute chaos without mathematics. The science of counting was the beginning of mathematics, it began with stones and then with tally marks and man visualised the quantity by looking at the number of stones or tally marks. Between the Greeks, Egyptians and the Romans, the first number systems were developed and these led to the development of geometry and the various branches of mathematics. Soon mathematics was used to draw logical conclusions and the science of dealing with quantity, form and numbers developed.
