Paragraph on “Can water climb?” complete paragraph for Class 9, Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12
Can water climb?
Water usually flows downwards, pulled by the force of gravity. However, in certain circumstances, it can move upwards or climb! If you place a thick and a thin plastic straw in a beaker of coloured Water, the water will rise up the straws above the level of the water in the beaker. The water will rise further up the thin straw than the thick straw. The ability of water to climb or rise up narrow tubes is an example of what is known as capillary action.
Plants have a capillary action to get water from the ground up to their branches and leaves. It also helps the blood to circulate around our bodies, particularly in the narrow vessels known as capillaries.
