My dear Father,

Your letter, dated January 27, 2007, was greatly exciting as well as joyful. It is heartening to note that your journey to Shimla, the Queen of the Hills, was full of immense thrill and fascination and that you reached your new place of work safe and sound. It appears you like the new house, allotted to you. Don’t you feel great in the midst of mountains all around, lovely pine and oak trees and the calm and serene environment ?

We all wish to join you in your new experience !

You may be glad to know that but for the feelings of separation from you, everything with us is going as usual. While mom keeps herself busy with domestic chores and reading, grandma is afraid that you may catch cold at the new place. She has started knitting sweaters for you. Pinky and I attend school regularly and are devoting full time for preparing ourselves for the annual examinations. We are sure to do extremely well, as grandpa is kind enough to guide us in our studies on a regular basis.

We remember and follow your oft-quoted advice :

Early to bed and early to rise,

Make a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

We finish our homework early, avoid watching TV programmes after 9.30 p.m. and are in bed by 10.00 p.m. sharp. Dear father, though you are intelligent enough, mother often gets worried because of your food and cold of Shimla. Please take care of you properly and employ a good servant to look after you and your residence. Avoid getting yourself exposed to cold.

With lots of love from grandparents and regards from all of us.

Obediently yours,

(Vineet)
