Letter regarding the callous attitude of hospital authorities.

July 1, 2003

To,

The Concerned Authority,

Ministry of Health,

New Delhi.

Sir,

This is to draw your kind attention towards the type of services provided by the private nursing homes and extracting the pound of flesh. On June 25, I took my wife, Anjali to a reputed nursing home in South Delhi for delivery. This being our first issue, we did not take into account the amount of money we were charged per visit and number of other expenses. However as per the report, the delivery was supposed to be a normal one. But the moment my wife was taken inside the Operation Theatre then my miseries started. Within no time I was informed that it will be a Caesarean and I had to dole out more amount then normally expected. Once this was over, I was informed that the newly born has to be put in an incubator, as it was having some problems. My wife was put under observation and the authorities of the hospital told me to stay for four days more so that they are fully satisfied before discharging my new born and wife. I was a helpless observer to all these malpractices that I came to know later on, when some of my friends, who were also victimised by the same private hospital. Kindly ensure that such institutions of mankind do not become so business like that people start losing their faith on the “saviours of life”.

Yours Sincerely,

Nivedita Pathak
