Sir,
During this whole month the prices of all the essential commodities have been skyrocketing day by day. Rice, which used to cost only Rs. 25 per kg. last month, is now selling at Rs. 30.00 per kg. The price of pulses has increased from Rs. 69 per kg. to Rs. 75 kg. Likewise, the prices of vegetables, fruits, cooking oil, butter, etc. have also shown a very steep rise. In fact, it is too difficult to think of an item which is not becoming dearer day by day.
This has completely upset the budget of a common man, who does not know how to manage even a simple meal for himself and his family. The poor are the worst sufferers.
One of the reasons for this increase in prices is the tendency of hoarding the commodities by the traders, who try to create artificial scarcity, as they have done in the case of rice and food grains. The government should check this practice at once to safeguard the interests of the consumers.
Public distribution system of the items of daily needs has also to be activated and revived.
Yours faithfully,
Pratibha Sharma
