The Autobiography of The Earth’s Natural Satellite

According to astronauts and scientists, I am nearly 4.527 billion years old. I spread bright white light in the night sky. I am the only natural satellite that moves around a large natural object called ‘Earth.’ I stay in space. Since thousands of years, I am called ‘Moon’. You are aware of the fact that I am very beautiful. Long ago people showed respect towards me by worshiping me as their God. Today, the limes have changed, as they know who I am.

Although there are several concepts for my being in the past, the most widely accepted explanation is that I was formed from the pieces of unwanted material that existed somewhere in space. These leftovers were formed due to a massive impact between the Earth and some other heavenly body. However, I am pleased that people on the Earth admire my beauty. Singers and poets are fond about me; They keep on writing something or the other for my beauty. I feel privileged for their efforts.

Earth revolves round the Sun and I revolve round the Earth. I take 27 days to complete one revolution around the Earth. When I come between the Sun and Earth, I am not visible to the people from the Earth. Compared to your planet my size is much smaller. Just like the Earth, even I am round in shape. I have no air on my surface. As there is no wind blowing on my surface, there are no storms on me. Due to the absence of air, my temperature varies. The part of my body facing the Sun has a very high temperature and another half of my body is extremely cold. My surface looks grey and reddish brown. I do not have clouds over me.

There are many big craters on my body. They are filled with big rocks and stone. Footprints of different astronauts who visited me are found on my surface. As I do not have air, I will preserve their footprints for many more centuries. I am not a self-luminous body, as I do not have any light of my own. I reflect back the light of the Sun. Every night I glow in the sky due to Sun’s light.

After avoiding several dangers, on 21st July 1969, men crossed the Earth’s atmosphere and landed on me. These men are known as ‘astronauts’. After landing, they carefully observed various conditions on me. They clicked pictures of my surface. They also took samples of my rocks with them.

Since some years, I am serving as a halt station for the space travellers. Men have built a laboratory on me where scientific research, testing and experiments are carried. They observe and study the Earth, other planets and stars in solar system and the Sun from my surface. I am happy to help them.
