Neville Chamberlain

Chamberlain was born in a British political family. Initially, he was inclined towards business but at the age of 49 he entered politics, and at 58 became the Prime Minister of Great Britain in 1937. At that time Hitler and Musolini were already preparing for Second World War. In his opinion, many of Hitler’s demands were just. So, he went to Germany to meet Hitler. Chamberlain also talked to the French Prime Minister and they all decided to divide Czechoslovakia. This is known as Munich treaty. The treaty also bound Hitler not to start war but Hitler rejected the treaty and attacked Poland in 1939.

The attack proved that Chamberlain did not understand the subtle moves of the German and Italian dictators and that he was naive in foreign affairs. As a result, he lost confidence of his own party and he had to resign in 1940. Thereafter, Winston Churchill took over the reigns and defeated Germany with the help of America, Russia and other allies.

Thus, Chamberlain is remembered as an unsuccessful politician.
