Louis Pasteur is the most famous French scientist and one of the greatest scientists of the world. He became a great benefactor of mankind by his discoveries in the fields of medicine and chemistry. Pasteur found cure for a number of diseases like chicken pox, hydrophobia or rabies and also discovered an inoculation against the dreadful disease of anthrax. Pasteur also discovered that milk becomes sour because of the presence of bacteria in it. He also showed that many of these bacteria could be destroyed by the application of certain amount of heat. Thus milk and milk products like butter etc. could be preserved for longer period. By this special method even, those germs which are responsible for causing the tuberculosis could be eliminated. By discovering the method of elimination and checking the growth of germs, Pasteur, besides finding cure for various diseases also helped in preserving food items. The method of making milk free of germs that Pasteur discovered, is known as pasteurisation method, and it is practised everywhere in the world.

Louis Pasteur was born in France in 1822. Since his very child-hood, he was full of patriotic thoughts. By nature, Louis was shy but he had a special liking for nature, drawing and science. Before establishing himself as a reputed scientist, Louis had also made his contribution in the French Revolution of 1789. He was also a member of the French Academy. For the French people he was an angel who lessened the suffering and miseries of mankind by his scientific discoveries. This great scientist left for his heavenly abode in 1895, at the age of 73.
