The Monkey and The Crocodile

Once upon a time, a monkey lived in an apple tree. He made friends with a crocodile living in a river nearby. Both of them spent much of their time together. The monkey gave his friend apples to eat. The crocodile enjoyed eating the apples.

One day, the crocodile took some apples to his wife. She, too, liked them. She wondered how sweet the heart of the monkey who ate the sweet apples daily, would be! She requested her husband to bring the monkey home so that she might eat his heart.

The crocodile invited the monkey. The monkey agreed to meet his wife. In the midstream, the foolish crocodile disclosed his wife’s plan. The monkey was very clever. He told the crocodile to take him back to the tree, as he had left behind his heart on the tree-top.

The crocodile took the monkey at his word. He carried him back to the tree. After having climbed the tree, the monkey laughed at the crocodile and said, “Go, you fool! The wicked wife that she has the greatest fool as her husband.”

Moral: Where power fails, wisdom and cleverness win.
