A Rich Man’s Feast

Once a rich man held a grand feast to celebrate his daughter’s marriage. Many dishes were prepared. But no fish could be available. By chance, a fisherman brought a large fish. But the greedy gatekeeper would not let him go in. The gatekeeper allowed him to go in after he had promised to pay him half of his profit.

The rich man was highly pleased to see the fish. He asked the price of the fish. To his surprise, the fisherman demanded that he would like to have a hundred lashes on his bareback.

The rich man was puzzled. He offered the fisherman a handsome price, but the latter insisted upon having a hundred lashes. The rich man had to ask his servant to give him a hundred lashes on his bareback.

After receiving fifty lashes, the fisherman asked the servant to stop as he had another partner to share the lashes. The partner was the gatekeeper of the rich man. The rich man understood the whole affair.

The gatekeeper was not only given fifty lashes but also dismissed. The fisherman was given a handsome price for the fish and was also rewarded with more money for teaching a lesson to the dishonest gatekeeper.

Moral: A dishonest man is ultimately a loser.
