An Exciting Match

Last month, a very exciting cricket match was played between the cricket first eleven of our school and that of the Govt. Hr. Sec. school, Bella Road. It was to become at kot6la ferozeshah grounds. The winning team was to become the champion of the zone. Quite a number of boys of both the schools turned up to applaud the players and see the match.

The team of our school was captained by Arjun Dass of Xth C and that of Bella Road School by Ramesh of 10th A. Shri B.N. Vats of Modern School won the toss and decided to bat. Surindra Bajaj and Mohan Bhatia were our opening batsmen. They were expected to give a good start to the team. The first fifteen were made during this person, 2 by Bajaj and I by Bhatia. The Bravo! Bajaj hit two fours one after the other and so did Bhatia in the next over. Bhatia was out at 23. Manoj of Xth B joined Bajaj. It was a pair known for bright cricket. Manoj proved the truth of the common belief by hitting six  and three fours in two over’s and return to the Pazvilion afgter making 24 runs in fifteen minutes. Then our Captain went to bat. He played the first over patiently without making any run; however, Bajaj had a free mood. As he tried to hit a late cup from Mohinder, the bowler of the opposite team he gave an easy catch to the wicket keeper. As he returned to Pavilion after making 30 bright runs, there was loud clapping. Our captain and the next batsman were expected to take a good score, but unfortunately a goodly from Raman put an end to our Captain’s innings, when he was at 15. The tall enders could not do well. Our team was out at a score of 120 runs. 5 minutes after lunch. Though not respectable the score was tolerable.

Now our bowlers were required to shoulder the responsibility of restraining the batsmen of the opposite team from outgoing our score. We had two very good spinners Ball and Malhotra on our side. Much depended on them. Our captain set aggressive team. Both were stylish batsmen knowing well which ball to hit and which ball to leave to itself. They raised their score by hitting looked to be well set a swinger from abalii forced jaidev to return ball. Mohan of their ream came at No. 3, but he was clean bowled before he had opened his score. Then came their Captain. Bhuishan, their No. I and the Captain were with the bat for a pretty long time adding 40 runs to the score in as many minutes. When we going to lose to match? No, the tides turned in our favour unexpectedly. Four wickets of the opposite team went down one after another in quick succession for a total of 11 runs before deadly spell of our bowlers Bali and Malhotra . The tail enders of the opposite team added only 12 runs and the whole team of the opponents was out for 93 and we won by 27 runs. Three cheers for the winners! Three cheers for the losers also!
