Bath Day – 14th January

Bath Day known as Snan Divas is celebrated every year on 14th January in India by Hindus. This day symbolises the purity and spirituality of body and mind. It is said to be the beginning of an auspicious period for performing ritualistic and other spiritual activities. Hence Bath Day is a spiritual festival.

The Sun moves from one of the twelve signs in the zodiac to another within a period of 360 days on this day. On the occasion of Bath Day, pilgrims from even the remote parts of India, speaking different languages and dialects assemble for a holy bath in the sacred water of the Ganges.

The history of the Bath-Day symbolises with the purity of body, mind, and soul. It is said that Shiva has been sustaining the Ganges on his head and her sacred water has been flowing on the earth, purifying all those who come in contact with them.

On Bath Day, pilgrims come in thousands to take a holy dip in the pure water of the Ganges during Kumbh Mela which starts on the Bath Day. Rich and poor come in large numbers and form a sea of humanity. They take bath to celebrate this greatest spiritual festival. Pilgrims attend this holy event with such tremendous faith and in such large numbers that it appears bewildering. Although there is no advertising for the event, Bath Day and Kumbh Mela, draw huge crowds due to immense faith in it.
