World Meteorological Day – 23rd March

World Meteorological Day is the day to highlight the importance of weather forming processes and weather forecasts. For this reason, a world Meteorological organisation was established on 23rd March. 1950. Its headquarters are in Geneva.

Meteorology is the scientific study of the Earth’s atmosphere. Many phenomena take place in the atmosphere, which is very important for our living. These phenomena are the formation of rain, winds, storms, and many more.

For meteorological calculations, INSAT-2E an Indian multipurpose satellite has been launched. This satellite is thus designed to continue and enhance the meteorological services. It will provide the meteorologists to help imaging cloud cover including the formation and movement of cyclones. VHRR data will assist in cyclone analysis, local severe storm monitoring, heavy rainfall forecast, and so on. Thus with the help of satellite the growing meteorological requirements of day-to-day would be fulfilled. Fishermen going to oceans for fishing can be warned of storms and thus they can be saved.
