10 Lines – A Flood Scene
1. Delhi is situated on the banks of the river Yamuna. In the month of August, it rained and rained.
2. The level of the river rose rapidly. Within a few days, it crossed the danger mark.
3. People living beside the banks were asked to shift to higher areas. On 20th August it broke the banks and water flooded on all sides very swiftly.
4. Soon the low-lying areas were deluged. People living in huts were badly hit.
5. The Government pitched tents for their relief. Local MLAs and M.P.s visited the flood-hit sights.
6. Free medical aid, food, and dry clothes were distributed. Some social organizations also helped the victims of the flood.
7. Candles, matchboxes, cooked food, etc., were provided to the victims.
8. Traffic was diverted to different routes. After a week the water of the river began to recede.
9. Thank God that there was loss on life. Some kutcha houses had collapsed.
10. The timely help by various agencies saved many lives that could have been washed away or died due to severe cold.
