Rising Upwards

Materials Required:

  1. Glycerin
  2. Water
  3. Pipe cleaner
  4. A toaster
  5. A small bowl
  6. Liquid soap
  7. A measuring cup
  8. A tablespoon An adult

It is a known fact that hot air rises upwards. It was this principle of hot air, which in 1783, in France saw the first instance of a hot air balloon, rising to an altitude of 6,000 feet approximately.

These hot air balloons were later used to carry weather instruments upto great heights from the earth’s surface and also were the beginning of hot air ballooning as a popular sport.

In this experiment, you have to prove the theory that hot air indeed goes up. First of all, you will need to obtain some bubble solutions for this project. Now it would be easier for you to buy this bubble solution from the market, rather that make it at home, because of the complications in production.

Once this is done, you should get an adult to place a toaster on a table and push down the handle, as if, it were going to toast the bread. Remember, that there should be no bread in the toaster. Also for safety purpose, see to it that the bubble solution should not be close to the toaster.

Now, standing at a distance of around 60-90 cm away from the toaster, dip your wand into the bubble solution and blow into the wand, taking care to aim over the toaster. Observe what happens to the bubbles as they float over the toaster. That will be the result of your experiment.
