Science Project on “Acids in Liquids”, Project Experiment Topics on Human Beings, Animals Plants for Class 8, 9, 10 and 12 Students.

Acids in Liquids

Materials Required:

  1. An adult
  2. A glass of water
  3. Litmus paper with a pH scale of 3 to 8
  4. A cup of tea
  5. Milk

Many people love to drink tea. Some like lemon in it, while the others prefer milk. Does adding milk to tea make it less likely to upset your stomach? If adding milk changes the amount of acid in tea and makes it milder, then probably it might.

The amount of acid in a liquid is measured by “pH”. The pH scale goes from 1 to 9. The lower the number, the stronger the acid.

First, pour a glass of water in the sink. Use litmus paper to find out the pH of your water. Write it down.

Then take the help of an adult to make a cup of tea. Use litmus paper to find out how much acid (called Tannic acid) is in the tea. Write down the amount.

Add milk to the tea and stir. Now check the pH of it again. Does adding milk raise the pH and make the tea less acidic?

If the pH of the tea is raised, do you think the tea would be less likely to upset your stomach? What is the pH of the milk? What is the pH of tea with lemon?

What is the pH of different kinds of soda?
