Growing on Their Own
Materials Required:
- Two fresh onions
- Two fresh potatoes
- A shoe box with a lid
- Four weeks, time
- Pencil and paper
- Four Toothpicks
Plants need moisture and food to grow. Vegetables like onions and potatoes grow all by themselves.
Put two fresh potatoes and onions in a shoe box. Place the lid tightly on top of it, so that it is dark inside. Put the box at a cool place in your home. Open the box after a week and look at the vegetables carefully. Do you see any changes? Note down what you see.
Place the lid back on the box for another week. Now what do you see? Write it down. Repeat this experiment, for own the changes.
A carrot stores food, but it cannot grow on its own, as it does not have enough water. So it needs a little help.
Around the middle of the fresh carrot, push four toothpicks partway. Pour some water in a tall glass. Place the carrot in the glass, so that the toothpicks rest on the rim and keep it from falling in.
Be sure, there is always enough water in the glass to cover the carrot till the bottom.
