Science Project on “Absorbing Heat”, Project Experiment Topics on Energy in Different Forms for Class 8, 9, 10 and 12 Students.

Absorbing Heat

Materials Required:

  1. Two same-sized, clear drinking glasses
  2. An ice-cream soda
  3. A cola
  4. A table by a sunny window
  5. Two same-sized ice cubes
  6. A dark room

Say you take two glasses at a birthday party and fill one with a cola and the other with plain ice-cream soda. Now you put an ice cube in each of the glasses. Which one, according to you, should melt first?

Heat energy is absorbed from sunlight. Dark objects absorb more heat from the sun, as compared to other coloured objects and thereby grow hotter. We will determine in this experiment, if the cola absorbs more sunlight and melts the ice cube at a faster rate than the other drink.

To carry out this process, take those two glasses to a table by a window, through which adequate sunlight is coming in.

Also remember, that when we are carrying out this experiment, we are assuming that the flavor or the sweetness of the soda in no way affects the melting of the ice-cubes. Since every experiment should be free from such errors, repeat the process in a dark room and check the time in which the ice melts. If they do so in the same time, then you can correctly infer that there is no problem in your assumption.

You can also try out this experiment with other drinks like lemonades and ginger ales etc.
