The Population Problem in India

The population is increasing at an alarming rate. Therefore it is called ‘population explosion’.

For India, it is very harmful. The causes responsible for its fast increase are literacy, control over death-rated religious beliefs, poverty and ignorance, and to a large extent control over epidemics. Although our government has started family planning programmes to check the population but it has proved successful only to some extent.

At present the population of India is more than 90 crores. It is also one of the causes of our poverty. No doubt the yield of crops and grains per acre increased but the increasing population is nullifying this increase.

We have to educate people about the manifold advantages small families can enjoy. A small family is always a happy family.

To have control over the population is the most important task of a nation if it wants to progress. Medical science has greatly checked the death rate. We must check the birth rate too. If the birth rate continues at the present rate, there will be population explosion soon. It will create a devastating effect on us. We’ll not be able to provide the new mouths food, clothing, shelter, education and other basic needs of life.

It is for the government to popularize ways and means how to check the increase in its population. Contraceptive devices have to be familiarized among the people.

This problem has to be checked on a war footing. It is high time to put a check on it or it will be too late.
