खेल मानव के मनोरंजन का साधन है। इससे जीवन की एकरसता नहीं रहती। अब अगर यह कल्पना करें कि अगर खेल न होते तो क्या होता? मनुष्य अपना मनोरंजन कैसे करता? अगर खेल न होते तो सबसे पहले मानव स्वभाव आलसी, अकर्मण्य व क्रोधी होता। मनुष्य एक ही कार्य को लगातार करके बोर हो जाता है। मानसिक रोगों की संख्या बढ़ जाती। खेलों के विकास के लिए अनेक संस्थाएँ बनी हुई हैं तथा हजारों लोग इस कार्य में लगे हुए हैं। खेल न होने पर यह सब विकास नहीं होता। आज के नायक धोनी, गीत सेठी, महेश भूपति, जसपाल राणा जैसे व्यक्ति भी नहीं होते। खेल न होने पर विज्ञापनों का जहर भी कम झेलना पड़ता तथा सट्टेबाज भी खाली बैठे रहते।
