Has Man a Future?

Has man a future? It is a controversial subject. The answer to this question depends upon the attitude of a man whether he is optimist or pessimist. Those, who are optimistic would answer in the affirmative. Those who are pessimistic, would answer in the negative. Some people think that man will be happy and prosperous in times to come and has a bright future. On the other hand, there are others who think that his future is dark and the day is not far off when he will destroy himself.

If this question, ‘Has man a future?’ is put to me, I would answer ‘Yes’. My opinion is that in the past man was subjected to death, disease, drought, destruction and devastation and nothing else, in the dark ages. In the Middle Ages the battles and wars were common resulting in death of so many people. Medical Science had not developed. So, diseases like smallpox, plague, and malaria were quite frequent. Epidemics killed a large number of people and so the age of man was not much. But thanks to surgery in medical science and other medicines that many lives are saved today. With the development of science, green revolution is taking place and artificial rains control the conditions of drought. Floods are also controlled. They caused devastation and have all round effect. So, the destruction of man and property is much checked.

It is an age of science, so in modern times we have just the reverse of what was in the past. We in the modern times, on the other hand, have peace, plenty and prosperity. The life has become easy, comfortable and luxurious. Materially we are much better than our forefathers in the past. Man is happy, free and fearless. His longevity and luxuries have increased and multiplied and thus he has a new horizon of peace and prosperity.
