Essay on “Dussehra” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

Dussehra

Dussehra is one of the most important festivals of India. It is celebrated twenty days before Diwali. It comes off mostly in October or in the beginning of November.

It was on this day that Lord Rama killed the cruel demon king, Ravana. Since then this day is celebrated all over India with slight variations.

On this day shops are tastefully decorated. There is a great rush in bazars and markets. People buy sweets and household articles. Many people from villages come to towns to make purchases.

In major cities and towns there is often a central open space which is quite vast. At this place huge effigies of Ravana, Meghnatha and Kumbh Karna are installed. They are set on fire in the evening when the sun is setting. They often contain crackers which burst loudly to the great delight of the spectators who have come from far and wide to witness the event.

Thereafter, the people rush to their houses. Some people fire crackers on this day. That should be avoided as it pollutes the atmosphere. If the children insist on firing crackers some elders must stand beside them so that there is no accident.

Dussehra proclaims the victory of goodness over evil. Rama represents good and moral forces, while Ravana is the symbol of evil. So, we should learn a lesson from this festival and try to make the victory of good over evil possible in all walks of life.
