A visit to a historical place

            Last year our history professor announced that he would take us to Agra. I ws keen on seeing the Taj at Agra. So I decided to join the tour. A list of students wanted to go to Agra, was prepared, railway concession were secured and suitable accommodations were arranged in St. Mary’s College, Agra.

            We reached Agra by the Mumbai Express. We got a comfortable accommodation in the girls hostel of St. Mary’s College. We did not waste any time in visiting the Taj because all of us were anxious to see this dream in marble. We were highly impressed by the beauty and grandeur of Taj. It is located on the bank of river Jamuna, its workmanship and the cypress garden surrounding it, add to grace to this wonder of the world.

            Then we visited the Taj at night. Luckily, it was a full moon night. Many people have come from far and wide to see the beauty of the Taj in the moon lit night. The Taj looked glorious. We were enchanted by the beauty of the movement. Our minds went back to the days of Shah Jahan when that builder or king built this great movement at such a high cost. It also reminded us of man’s love for woman and his desire immortalizes his love for her.

            We engaged a guide. He gave us valuable details about the architecture, the historical background, the number of workmen engaged, the cost of the building and other interesting facts. The next morning we took some photographs. Our visits to Agra were quite rewarding. Our knowledge about the Taj was no longer second hand. Besides, we got away from the dull class room lectures on history.
