Bobby Fischer

U.S.A.: Chess King

Birth :1843

James Robert Fischer (Bobby Fischer) of U.S.A. and Gary Kasparov of U.S.S.R. are the two most well-known chess players who established their supremacy in such a difficult sport as chess at a comparatively very young age. Bobby achieved a very spectacular success when he became the national chess champion of U.S.A. at the age of 13 only. The year 1972 has historical importance in chess. This year, Bobby Fischer beat Boris Spassky of U.S.S.R., the reigning world chess champion in Iceland, to become the World Chess Champion. This victory catapulted Bobby Fischer into great fame and overnight he became a world favourite chess champion. The Americans, his compatriots, began to call him the ‘Chess King’ after this success.

Fischer was born on 9th March 1943, in Chicago (U.S.A.) and was brought up in New York. Fischer gave up studies after finishing High School. He became fond of playing chess. Bobby liked to read books and magazines on chess a great deal.

Fischer holds a separate identity among all those chess players who made it to the top. Fischer is one of the most talked about players of the world, more so for his odd nature and behaviour than his brilliant successes.
