Valour Day – 9th April

Valour day on 9th April is celebrated to commemorate the bravery of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). On 9th April 1965, a small contingent of 2nd Battalion Central Reserve Police Force repulsed the Pakistani brigade-level attack at Sardar Post in Gujarat. Hence 9th April is observed as ‘Valour Day’ in the Force. This observance is a salute to those brave Jawans and 1308 heroes who sacrificed their lives responding to the call of duty from 1939 till date.

This Day is observed to praise the efforts of jawans and police for maintaining peace, providing security from anti-social elements and national attack. Police risk their own life in duty to save our life and for the nation’s security.

We cannot think of an individual or national life without the police force. In the 21st century, the nation’s culture has developed manyfold. Hence there emerges a great need of security everywhere. Starting from any national celebration like 26th January visits by VIPs fairs and festivals, railways, police stations, high courts, supreme courts, parliament, Rashtrapati Bhavan, roads to individual’s life, we could find police playing the role of heroes. With the presence of police, we feel secure and guarded. But the other side of the coin is that police life is full of valour, duty and danger. Anywhere the police is posted, they have to face a lot of difficult situations. Hence the celebration of Valour Day is really a tribute to the police force for their duty and devotion.

“The spirit of courage and bravery, is the essence of valour for everone.”
