English Essay/Paragraph/Speech on “Karaga Festival” for Kids and Students for Class 8, 9, 10, Class 12 and Graduation Examination

Karaga Festival

The festival of Karaga is Bangalore’s oldest and most important festival celebrated by the Tigala community. During the Karaga festival one can hear an echo of the famous battle of Mahabharata which was fought between the Pandavas and Kauravas. It lasts for 18 days which depicts all the facets of the battle of Mahabharata. Traditionally, the festivities begin with the recitation of mantras and the hoisting of a ceremonial flag on the banks of Bangalore’s Sampangi tank. On the seventh day, the Hasi-Karaga (tender Karaga) is brought from a saltwater pond near the Dhan-narya Temple. The tender Karaga, carrying the pot, goes to the Sampangi tank. Then he returns to his initial point. At this point it becomes the Karaga.

The Karaga festival is awaited by hundreds of bare-chested dhoti-clad and turbaned Veer kumaras (brave youth) as only a member of the community can be a veer kumara. Amidst fire walking and frenzied dancing, Karaga carrier comes out from the temple. This is a very dangerous ritual because Karaga carrier is supposed to be stabbed if he loses balance and falls.
